Information: A whole day of talks by expert speakers on the topic of sustainable architecture, discussing how traditional buildings and new design can both play their part in improving energy efficiency. These are free 'drop in' sessions so come along to one or as many as you like. Morning 9.30-10.15: 'Greener Building(s)' An introduction to the issues surrounding sustainability of the built heritage. A case study of the Royal College, Glasgow, discusses ways of assessing and improving the environmental impact of historic buildings. Dr Branka Dimitrijevic, Director for the Centre of the Built Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University 10.15-11.00: 'Seeing Red' Assesses thermal performance and ways to balance improved energy efficiency and conservation of traditional buildings. Dr Paul Baker, School of the Built & Natural Environment, Glasgow Caledonian University 11.00-11.45: 'Sitting lightly on the Earth' Examines the environmental benefits of traditional building skills and natural, locally sourced materials, as exemplified by pre-industrial architecture. James Simpson, Simpson & Brown Architects 11.45-12.15: Questions Afternoon 13.00-13.45: 'Digital meets Historical' Examines the use of new digital technology to record, research and conserve historic buildings and structures such as the earliest iron bridge in Scotland, Stirling Castle and Rosslyn Chapel. Douglas Pritchard, Glasgow School of Art (in partnership with Historic Scotland and Cyark) 13.45-14.30: 'India of Inchinnan: A sound investment in heritage' Case study on the transformation of this stunning Category A listed Art Deco building and new build extension. Gordon Gibb, Gibb Architects 14.30-15.15: 'The Ruin, the Road and the Railway - A Regeneration Plan for the former Caledonian Road Church, Hutchesontown, Glasgow' Describes the birth and development of an idea by the Greek Thomson Society for the regeneration of the former Caledonia Road Church.
