Information: Stephen Mullen presents this fascinating lecture which examines Glasgow's mercantile past from 1660 onwards and illustrates the links with tobacco, slavery, the abolition movement and the city's urban environment. The direct and indirect connections with slavery will be highlighted, in addition to the later local campaigns for abolition. The talk provides an intriguing account of role of slavery in Glasgow's history, one which has been largely unacknowledged until recent times.
