In the heart of Glasgow stands one of the city’s most important and prestigious buildings. A combination of mosaic, marble, carved wood, mural paintings, embossed wallpaper, gilding and stained glass come together to create a wonderful civic palace.
Completed in 1888, the City Chambers has for over a hundred years been the headquarters of successive councils serving the City of Glasgow.
Doors Open Day is a great opportunity to leisurely walk around this magnificent building, admiring the entrance hall with a harmonious blending of stone, granite, marble and mosaic.
Marvel at the grandness of the Banqueting Hall and the magnificent mural paintings by the Glasgow Boys.
The Council Chamber walls are paneled to a height of 15 feet in Spanish Mahogany with two massive ornate chimney pieces on either side of the chamber.
