Glasgow Traditional Building Forum will host a demonstration of traditional building skills and materials for repairing and maintaining Scotland’s traditional homes. Complimentary activities will take place in Architecture and Design Scotlands Material Considerations- A Library of Sustainable Building Materials.

Glasgow Traditional Building Forum will feature demonstrations and talks on the key traditional building skills and materials required to repair and maintain Glasgows traditionally built homes (pre 1919) to help homeowners make informed decisions on how best to get their homes, or ensure they remain, in good condition and energy efficient.

Material Considerations : A Library of Sustainable Building Materials showcases sustainable, traditional and emerging low carbon building products and promotes and encourages innovation in construction in Scotland using indigenous resources. During Doors Open Day: activities and computer games will be available for visitors to explore sustainable buildings and materials use.

Come and have a look at the materials and be inspired!

 

Scottish Traditional Building Forum will present talks and displays focused on repairing and maintaining traditional buildings, a series of experts will be on hand to answer your questions. Each talk will last approximately 20-30 minutes leaving time for you to ask questions.

Broader than Bricks, Cooler than concrete our Materials Considerations: Library of Sustainable Building Materials presents a vast array of sustainable and innovative construction materials for you to explore. How many different shades of sandstone can you find? What can we make from Scottish trees? And what do sheep have to do with construction anyway? Answer these and more by taking part in our wide range of activities:

Materials Treasure Hunt- on your own or in teams follow the clues to navigate through the drawers of the materials library to find some interesting and unusual building materials.
Have a guess- see if you can work out what our recycled materials used to be.
Build a miniature dry stone wall, or house, or surprise us!
I spy- head off on a trail through the rest of the Lighthouse Building with our I spy game and see how many of the building materials you can spot, can you get maximum points?
Build your own sustainable house/ town with our interactive My Sust House computer games.
You will also be able to take time to explore our materials and Scottish Case Study projects on display.
