This regenerated former GCC Cleansing Department has been upcycled to what is now a thriving Arts Centre with a theatre, cafe, exhibition, library, film & FX department plus production and design workshops. Come along for puppet shows and workshops.

This building with its former reception, canteen, drying areas and stores has been carefully renovated over the past 25 years by The Garret Mask & Puppet Centre Trust Ltd. It is the only dedicated, “hands-on”, creative Mask and Puppet Centre of its kind in the UK with an extensive library, museum and archives containing many unique objects.

SMPC has offered since 1989 a regular annual programme of events for children and families, Jan Jun and Sep Dec, alongside our very popular birthday party shows and workshops. Dont miss our Magipup Festival, which runs through the October School Holidays featuring Magic and Puppet events for all the family.

We are also home to the Scottish Conjurers Association, who meet regularly on the first, second and fourth Wednesday of the month Jan May and Sep -Dec.

We host international residencies promoting the discovery of other cultures and a wide range of learning through doing activities for schools, hospitals and community organisations.

We regularly promote touring exhibitions from our collection materials to museums and galleries UK wide: The Magic of Masks and Puppets and Behind the Mask.
